Carpet install disaster

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

So this is now at least the 20th email, phone call, text trying to get answers

Wondering if I'll hear anything this time.

In California - Contract with your Murrieta store location.

Put deposit down and told carpet would be installed on July 1

NO ONE EVER CONTACTED US FIRST. WE HAD TO INITIATE CONTACT EVERY TIME TO GET DETAILS

July 1 - told installers were sick - it will be done on July 5

July 5 - sorry not that day but July 6 for sure

July 6 - told that our carpet was installed in someone else's home - get the new carpet and it will be installed on July 15

July 15 - no one shows up - repeated calls and texts sent with no response

July 17/18 - told that there's a big shake up at that store and please be patient we will take care of this

July 19-27.

Kept being told to be patient. Accounting needs to send payment and get carpet - Told that it could probably be in on Wed or Thursday 26/27.

Then on

Tuesday 25th Sorry we can't do that - but we will for sure be there Monday July 31

July 31. No one showed up - No Communication at all.

Fraudulent Misrepresentation

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Mar 17, 2021

I went to Carpet One in Butte, MT to purchase 1008 sq ft of waterproof laminate flooring for my new home. I wanted to see the Mirror Lake Dockside Resort - Cabin Door that I had seen online.

Two saleswomen assisted in the sale. I asked if this flooring required an underlayment and was told no, so no attempt was made to sell me the underlayment that this flooring actually did need. First they miscalculated the number of boxes and ordered only 618 sq ft. Then they charged us $3.79 instead of the $3.59 online price.

and they charged us $75 for shipping, and did not give me a receipt until ten days later when the flooring came in. It was not Mirror Lake, but Mohawk Revwood Plus. I was told it was the same. We installed it without an underlayment because we were told it didn't need it and was not sold any.

Now the flooring squeaks with every step. All efforts to come to a resolution has failed and now I'm going to have to take them to court for fraudulent misrepresentation.

They billed us for two hours labor to fix the floor under the rug and said they would refund money if it didn’t take that long. They worked on the floor less than 45 minutes and would only reduce the bill to 90 minutes charge.

Angry

Levi at the Bismarck ND store was absolutely horrible to work with! When the day came for my floor to be installed, he had not scheduled it with the installer. So after waiting for 45 minutes, I called Levi and he said he had lost all of my information and that he would call the installer now. So after the installer arrives, without the flooring, he got mad and walked off and said he would do it next week. Well I finally got my flooring installed later. Then I went into pay for the flooring and he charged my credit card twice! I called when I saw it going through on my credit card twice and all Levi will do is adamantly say it was not charged twice and will not fix it! I am so mad! My only option to fix this is to file a fraudulent charge with my credit card company!!!!!

Horrible Customer Service. Does Not Honor Warranties.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Worst experience I have ever had with a company and customer service in my life. I purchased carpet with a warranty, which they used every excuse under the sun not to honor. The employee Diane is hands down the worst customer service rep I have ever encountered. For almost seven months she promised to provide me information relating to my claim and didn't. I had to repeatedly call the store to find out the status of my claim. I was told I would be called back by Diane and she never called back. This happened at minimum seven times. Finally, I called and spoke with the owner Bernie, who was even worse than Diane. He acted nonchalant about horrible customer service, refused to honor my warranty, made no apology for Diane's awful behavior, was sarcastic, and didn't seem to care about the horrible impression his company makes. With all of the businesses in Rhode Island, there is no need to give money to a company whose owner doesn't care about his customers. This company is a sham and they offer warranties which are completely meaningless. They will not honor warranties and will avoid you should you have a problem with your carpet. Between Diane and the owner Bernie I have no idea how this place constantly brags about their good customer service.

Original review Jan 27, 2018
My experience with Carpet One was reminiscent of my father buying a used car in the 1950’s and dealing with the salespeople of that era. The salesperson at Carpet One was somewhat professional but wanted a 100% deposit on a $500 order. This protects the seller but offers nothing for the buyer and removes all leverage in the event of problems with quality of material or installation. I offered 20% and the salesperson called the manager over to discuss explaining I had offered a 20% deposit on the sale and was he agreeable. The manager asked, “How much is the sale?” and upon learning it was $500, said it was company policy to collect a full deposit on all sales. This was the part reminding me of used car salesman because that statement was obviously a lie because if that was the actual company policy, there would have been no need for the manager to ask about the amount of the sale. I also imagine the salesperson was completely ignorant of this all inclusive “company policy”. I left and purchased my carpet from a company requesting no down payment.

Carpet One - Carpet Installation Review - Image 2
Carpet one of Owasso laid my carpet. It started getting humps in it. I called them out to look at it and they told me I had humps in my wood floor. I don't! They won't stand behind their work. I will never buy from these people again. Obviously they don't have a clue about carpet. They didn't even tack it down at my front door. It is crawling from one room to the next.

Not an opinion. FACT!!!

Guest

Sorry , but your photos are too dark to tell very much. If the floor is buckling underneath, it should be pretty easy to feel the humps.

If that is the case you have a water leak and water is crawling underneath the planks. This does happen!

If the carpet is just bubbling up, it was probably not power stretched when installed and now the furniture will need to be moved out and the whole room or rooms will have to be re-stretched and trimed at the walls.

Often that hallways and traffic areas are the first to show when the carpet was not properly stretched. Wear and tear, heavy traffic can also make it worse.

I can spread carpet out and it goes flat. No one from carpet one bothered to do that.

I do not have a water leak either.

I do not slide furniture either. Just a bad job!!!!!

Several Questions, How long has it been since installed, what time of the year was it installed? If installed when it was a cold weather day, was the house heater on and it relatively warm inside?

How much foot traffic?

Were you there when installed, if so, did they use a power stretcher? (you can google an installation with a power stretcher?

It does appear to be a installation problem, but the above information help to explain and some possible recourse on it.

Installed in September, still warm in Oklahoma. No power stretcher used, I watched them lay it.

They rolled carpet out and tacked it down. It's been down about 3 years, but started humping up in about 6 months. I immediately went to Carpet One and told them about it. They sent a rep out and he drug his foot over hump and said you have humps in your floor and left.

He didn't even get down and touch it. I can get down and smooth the hump out and it goes flat. No floor humps. It has crawled from bedroom to hallway to living room.

My husband and I are in our late 60s and 70s, so not a lot of traffic. It was never even tacked down at the front door, I can stick my hand under it.

You gave me the information to make a pretty likely assessment. I am from OKC, so I look a little more interest In your post.

My son played in a soccer tournament there last fall.

The fact that they didn't use a power stretcher is the reason. A knee kicker is really only supposed to be used in small area and alongside a power stretcher. I am sorry it seems that the average carpet installer now days tries to cut corners and it is the result of maybe the carpet store not paying enough, and clearly no supervision or a combination of all the above. All carpet relaxes (stretches) after being installed, some is worse than others.

So is a power stretcher is not used it will start rippling in the longer areas and especially where there is a lot of foot traffic. It sounds like they stapled the felt down, which is good thing or the felt can contribute to the problem.

I am a remodel contractor not a certified carpet expert, but I believe the Carpet One Trademark is an affiliation of stores that get to use the Carpet One Trademark and advertising etc. There is a Carpet One website and you may be able to get some more information and assistance.

In OKC most of the carpet one stores are owned by Brewer Carpet, but I do not know about the Tulsa area.

I have two companies here that I use to buy and install carpet. One I use for higher end jobs and carpet etc. Their installer is in his 60' s and does excellent work. I only watch him to learn his techniques.

The other company I use, does a lot of apartments and rentals, they have multiple installers and when I use them, I specify to use a power stretcher and I watch over them to make sure it gets used.

You might file a complaint with the better business bureau and maybe one of the TV stations (channel 6) might have an "In your corner" assistance like here. Hopefully if you stay at them (squeaky wheel) maybe they will come back and take care of it.

If you call someone else out, it will cost a couple of hundred dollars if the whole house needs re-stretched.

Sorry, your having problems and I hope you get it resolved soon.

Hi, thank you so much for your input. I finally got someone to listen to me.

Lol. They didn't use a knee kicker either. I watched them. In a couple of areas, especially in the small hallway it almost feels like the pad is wadded up.

I am resigned to the fact that I am going to have to pay for it myself. I just need it fixed. I can't even find anyone to stretch it. (Tulsa Area).

Any suggestions. Thanks again for your input.

I don't really don't know any carpet installers in Tulsa area. I do know of a carpet cleaning company that does some repairs Dynamic Carpet Care 918-279-****, ask for Keith Cross. Also, there is a Pro Source Carpet Company, they sell carpet but don't install it, but they usually have a list of installers, but you need to sort through them as I have found some very good and some not so good.

I will see if I can get a list of their installers there and email you later if you want to send your emaik to me text 405-****-****.

Laminant Floor ordered in error

My husband misunderstood what we discussed and ordered a laminate floor from the nice salesman we talked to the prior evening. I had told him to wait a day and lets make sure this is the one we want. He called back prior to 2 hours of ordering and was told it was too late, the couldn't cancel the order. I called back and asked why not, because it had not been shipped at this point. He got really upset that we were cancelling the order, so I asked to speak to the manager. He said he wasn't there. Then he really got mad and said he didn't do anything wrong. I agreed that he hadn't but didn't think it should be too late to cancel an order. I told him I was going to call my credit card and cancel the payment. He told us to not step foot in that store again. I will never do business with Carpet One with the Tulsa store (I am barred anyway...LOL)!

Carpet One - Flooring Installation Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Have not had flooring installed long enough to have any opinion regarding quality. Carpet One subcontracts installation and pays by the job. Or so the installers told me. Guys who came were in a hurry and inattentive to detail. They also were completely unreceptive and unresponsive to my questions and observations and refused to provide even basic info (i.e., how long before I could walk on or place furniture on the flooring). I didn't consider floor prep adequate as there were some uneven areas and gouges from removing the previous flooring from the subfloor that weren't filled and smoothed. There was no effort to match the light and dark colors at the seam which made the seam rather than the flooring the center of attention from 12 feet across the room. Had to get a Carpet One employee to come out during the install to have that corrected. The flooring had a large pattern that was completely ignored by the installers. In the end, they just kind of tried to match light and dark. Am certain my install could have been more visually attractive had there been more attention to this detail. HIGHLY recommend that if you purchase vinyl sheet flooring from Carpet One that you directly contract an installer that works for you rather than rely on Carpet One and their sub contractors. In the past year I have had occasion to contract with 12 other various home professionals (plumber, electrician, roofer, appliance installer, heat and air, lawn, landscaping, ceramic tile, drywall and trim, structrual repair, hardwood floor refinisher, general handyman). Of that, the vinyl flooring resulted in the single largest expense, the poorest quality work, and the worst attitudes of any worker in my home. I'd have all of those home professionals except the Carpet One installers come back.

Carpet One Horrible Customer Service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Hello. I went into my nearby Carpet One to get bids for tile and carpet in my home. I was promised by the salesman that my tile, as requested would be installed and completed before Thanksgiving. I had to call to check and see if the date was confirmed, I was then told it couldn't be done until the Monday after Thanksgiving. Of, so we are all ready, the person, according to the store manager was to be at my home at 10am. Was he? No, he was not. I was told he might be late because he had a small job to do, then the store manager tells me he had a doctor's appointment. At 11am I called again and he was admitted to the hospital. Neither myself nor my husband are ***, we both can figure out when we are being lied to. The store in Arlington, TX needs to have some customer service lessons and learn communication skills. Oh, and the reason they tile installer couldn't come before Thanksgiving is because all of a sudden all their other crews were scheduled and this person's father died. I was going to get carpet also from this store, but not now. I will find someone who is dependable. Obviously not this store.

Nightmare

Cabinets ordered

Cabinets arrived

Refrigerator cabinet not deep enough

Sales lady argued I was 1/2 responsible because they did not ask me for the refrigerator measurement and I should pay for 1/2 costs

I refused

Replacement cabinet arrived deep enough now to wide for refrigerator

Carpet One states they will hodge podge in fillers

I told them all I want is it to be the way it would of been had they not made the measurement mistakes

Sales lady and Manager refused

I called a independant Cabinet Contractor in to evaluate

He states not acceptable as is and what Carpet One is offering to do is wrong and will look awful

I offer to Carpet One that I need 4 pieces of filler at there expenseand I will pay a outside contractor to fix it the correct way

The Manager and sales girl say no they will only offer the hodge podge soloution

My brand new wood floor is quite scratched up from there cabinets in and out they have take no responsibility for that either. Unbelivalble!!!

Not At All A Good Place To Buy Carpets

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We had to replace carpet that had suffered severe damage. After looking locally only, we settled on Carpet One. The salesman was okay, but not exactly patient. We selected a carpet and when the installers came they cleared the furniture and went to work. After the job was done we noticed that all the seams showed, vividly for some of them. I called Carpet One (CO) and the salesman was out. I sent emails and never got a response. All within their alleged 90 day replacement period. We are beyond that now and still no action. Another disturbing thing was that after the sale was closed, neither the salesman nor the company called to see if we were satisfied. Also, the Stainmaster carpet we looked at in the store did not seem to be the same carpet they installed. No markings, no labels on the back, nothing. Just the date it had been manufactured, which was the same date that we ordered it. The carpet is okay, though (at least now -- 100 days later), the carpet layers were awful. We seem to be stuck and without any recourse. The seams are so bad that everyone who visits comments on them. I'd say this is a bad company. Totally rude by not responding, lying about their 90 day "guarantee," and poor installation.

CARPET ONE, OCALA FLORIDA WILL NOT CORRECT BAD FLOORING AFTER CALLING THEM FOR 15 MONTHS.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Flooring was sold to us by Chan. Seams on Earthscape flooring separated (were undetectable when first laid).

Pictures were taken, floor inspector was sent in. They tried to "repair" flooring several times but have made it WORSE. Now that it is worse they do not even return my phone calls or texts. Owner, Gary was called, but he never returned my phone call.

I was promised new flooring a couple times but I have yet to see it. Instead they tried to "fix" it. After phone calls not being returned when promised and no satisfaction on the flooring I am telling everyone I know about CARPET ONE OF OCALA. Doug who installed flooring was very good and Jeff who was the installation manager for awhile was helpful until he was promoted now I get no response from new installation manager or anyone.

If you are thinking Carpet One, don't expect good service!!!

I have 5 1/2 pgs of notes on phone calls and visits. And Earthscapes is suppose to have a 20 YEAR Warranty, even on installation.!!!

Installation was a nightmare. Told sales people my wife suffered from Alzheimer's. They told me they would have the work done in 2 days. Today was day 4. Still not completed. Numerous promises which were not followed up. My poor wife was very confused and upset by the time installers left today. Never again use Carpet One of Mobile.
